Threshold is a new music program devised in collaboration with Longform Editions, the Sydney-based, internationally renowned online ‘gallery for listening’. For the duration of Volume, recordings of four world-premiere compositions will be played at the thresholds of Naala Badu and Naala Nura – the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ north and south buildings. These newly composed longform pieces of music will hit you at different points across the sonic spectrum as you enter and exit each building.
Hear Austrian experimentalist Fennesz, who creates guitar-based ambient and drone; Murri artist amby downs, whose place-based sound works have traversed dark histories and a reconnection to Country; the elastic and episodic music of Berlin-based Australian guitarist Jules Reidy; and a new collaboration between Sydney’s Seaworthy and Perth’s Matt Rösner that was created during an artist’s residency program at the Bundanon Art Museum.
