Ticket FAQs

  • Are tickets required?

Tickets will be required for some events in the Volume program. Please check the event page you are interested in for further information. Many events are free and do not require a booking or ticket.

  • Where can I buy tickets?

If a ticket is required for a performance or event, it can be booked online via the event page on our website.

Tickets can also be booked in person at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (subject to availability). Tickets are sold at the welcome desk in Naala Nura, our south building, or at the welcome hub in Naala Badu, our north building. We strongly recommend that you book your tickets online in advance as times and dates can sell out.

Tickets booked online will be provided by email, which can be scanned from your mobile device or printed for entry into the performance. One QR code covers all tickets in your order. Your tickets will be emailed to you 48 hours prior to the event.

If you are having problems booking online, call 02 9225 1627 Monday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

  • What if I don't receive an email confirmation of my booking?

You will receive an order confirmation when booking and tickets will be sent out 48 hours prior to the event.

If you don’t receive an email confirmation and can’t access your account to retrieve your ticket, please email ticketing@ag.nsw.gov.au with details of your order or call our box office on 02 9225 1627 Monday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

  • Is there a booking fee?

No. The Art Gallery of New South Wales does not currently charge booking fees when purchasing a ticket.

  • What happens if I can’t attend something I have booked?

Tickets for performances cannot be exchanged or refunded. All sales are non-refundable except in the event of a cancellation or rescheduling as iterated in the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice for Ticketing of Live Entertainment in Australia. If something unexpected happens that prevents you from attending, please call our box office on 02 9225 1627 or enquire onsite at the Art Gallery.

For some free events, a ‘cancel’ option is included in your confirmation email. Please use this option so your ticket can be released to others.

  • Can someone else use my ticket?

There are no names on tickets so they can be used by anyone, regardless of who bought it. Each ticket is valid for a single entry; however, staff will accommodate re-entry to the same event in certain circumstances.

  • Do Art Gallery of New South Wales members need tickets?

Members of the Art Gallery of New South Wales receive many benefits, including access to Volume tickets and discounts. You can become a member at the welcome hub in Naala Badu, our north building; at the welcome desk or Members Lounge in Naala Nura, our south building; or you can join online. Member priced tickets are limited and will be available until exhausted.

You must log in to your account to access member tickets. More details available in the members section of the website. Visit: Become a member.

  • Who is the authorised ticket seller for Volume?

The authorised agency for this event is the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Only tickets purchased by the authorised agency should be considered reliable. If you purchase tickets from a non-authorised agency such as Ticketmaster Resale, Viagogo, Ticketbis, eBay, Gumtree, Tickets Australia or any other unauthorised seller, you risk that these tickets are fake, void or have previously been cancelled. RESALE RESTRICTION APPLIES.

  • What is a concession?

If you hold a Senior’s Card, Health Care Card, Veterans Affairs Card, Pensioner Card, NAVA Membership Card or Full Time Student Card, you are eligible for a concession ticket. Please bring your card with you as you may be asked to show it at the entry.

  • Does the Art Gallery accept the companion card?

Yes. A carer or person who supports a visitor with disability or frailty is admitted free to paid events if they present their companion card onsite at the Art Gallery. Please call our box office on 02 9225 1627 to purchase a companion card ticket. For more information, visit the Access page on our website.
